The inspiration for Windrush Jazz is drawn from the personal experiences of Ray’s Windrush Generation parents (RIP) and driven by the development of Jamaican music. The ska, jazz, rock steady, bluebeat and reggae.
Jamaican jazz saxophonist Ray Carless launches this WINDRUSH JAZZ (& SKA ) page as a community resource where fellow Windrush Generation offspring and their seed can meet to share stories of their journey, promote Windrush related events, and eulogise.
Here’s a message from Ray Carless. “I’m a British citizen and professional musician that was born in Jamaica where both myself and my sister were raised by my aunts. I was brought up in the UK…I’m an extremely proud Windrush Bambino with a story to tell that does not rely on the rightly critical news-worthy high profile aspects of immigration, toxic racism and illegal deportations.
Our approach here will be from the perspective of the music that brought my parents together……Mum and dad was were both from the Windrush Generation, he was a professional tailor by day and a semi-pro musician by after dark….Mum did various factory jobs and her last place of work was at British Telecom as a catering assistant.”
